Garfield Ridge History

Dutch Settlement in Garfield Ridge

Dutch immigrants were among the first to settle in the Garfield Ridge/Summit area.  Many farmed the lands surrounding Mud Lake.   The Dutch famers settled around Archer and Austin and east along 55th street to Cicero around the late 1800's. They founded two churches. Bethel Reformed on Archer and Austin and Archer Reformed on Archer and Mayfield.  The Archer Reformed church and parsonage still stand today, although under a different name.
